We got acquainted with the Candy Aqua 114D2-07, which was considered one of the smallest models on the market. But despite its modest size, this machine provides excellent washing quality and high efficiency. How much it will save, what are its strengths and weaknesses and whether it is convenient to use - read our review.

Characteristics

* Contrary to popular belief, this is not the time limit after which the device will necessarily break down. However, after this period, the manufacturer ceases to bear any responsibility for its performance and has the right to refuse to repair it, even for a fee.

Equipment

The car arrived to us in a technological packaging made of polystyrene foam, which was reinforced with wooden inserts and covered with plastic film.

Inside the package, in addition to the machine itself, we found:

• bracket for attaching the drain hose

At first sight

After unpacking the car, we were struck by its small size: compared to full-size models, it seems like a toy. This impression is reinforced by the proportionally smaller main parts: hatch cover, drum, control panel and detergent compartment.

Despite its size, this model has a familiar layout: in the upper part of the front panel there is a compartment for detergents, a control panel with a small display and a program selector.

There is light decorative stamping on the white walls, which gives the body additional rigidity.

The back wall is smooth. In its upper part there is a fitting for connecting the inlet hose; it is equipped with a removable mesh filter that protects the machine from rust and contaminants if they suddenly appear in tap water. A non-removable corrugated drain hose of a traditional design comes out of the bottom. Where are the usual shipping bolts that hold the drum in place?

The glass in the small hatch cover is transparent, single. The lid itself is attached to a metal hinge and opens in a direction that is unusual for most users: to the right. The latch is silumin, the response part is plastic.

The drum is evenly perforated, there are no stampings on its walls designed to improve hydrodynamics - a simple mesh surface. The design of the straight plastic shoots that mix the laundry is also simple.

The filter looks familiar and is arranged in a familiar way, the hatch of which is located in the lower right corner.

The detergent compartment is divided into two parts: one half is for washing powder or gel, the second is for rinse aid. The Candy Aqua 114D2-07 ​​does not have a pre-wash option, so a third compartment is not required.

The inlet hose is not equipped with an AquaStop/AquaProtect valve.

According to an already established tradition, we carry out partial disassembly of the unit and look at what is inside it. We remove the top cover (on this model, unlike most washing machines we know, it is made not of plastic or chipboard, but of steel) and we see a clearly foreign element.

Between the lid and the steel spacer that stiffens the body, we found a foam and cardboard spacer. Marveling at such an unusual shock absorber, we continued the inspection, but were in a hurry: we later learned from the installation manual that there were two transportation bolts under the gaskets. They hold the drum in the stowed position and must be unscrewed when installing. Thus, the installation of Candy Aqua 114D2-07 ​​requires its partial disassembly, this is the first time we have encountered this.

Apart from this funny moment, the internal structure of the washing machine did not present us with any surprises: all other technological solutions are standard.

Instructions

The user manual is printed on thin yellowish paper of rather poor quality. The printing is also disappointing: although the text of the instructions is easy to understand, some of the illustrations could have been clearer.

The 27-page brochure is written for several models of washing machines. A number of functions mentioned in the documentation did not work quite as expected, some functions were missing in the Aqua 114D2-07, and some of the available ones were not described in the manual.

Operating the machine is intuitive, and during operation you rarely need to refer to the manual.

The control panel consists of four mechanical buttons, a round program selector and a display with red LED indicators. The screen displays information about the expected duration of operation, the selected spin speed and, when setting a delayed wash, the time before it starts.

The Start/Pause button starts and pauses the wash. The delayed start option allows you to delay the execution of the selected program up to 24 hours in hourly increments.

The spin speed can be selected from 400 to 1100 rpm in increments of 100 rpm.

The “Anti-allergy” button turns on a washing mode with increased water consumption. This function ensures gentle handling of fabric fibers and is also recommended for people with sensitive skin.

The “Cold water” option completely turns off heating - while the water level, time and mode remain the same. The manufacturer recommends this mode for fabrics that cannot withstand high temperatures, colored materials, curtains and delicate synthetics, small rugs and lightly soiled items.

The program selector not only allows you to select the desired scenario for the appropriate type of fabric, but also controls the temperature. By turning the knob, you can select one of four temperature settings for cotton (30, 40, 60 and maximum) and one of three for mixed fabrics. Delicate fabrics such as wool and silk can be washed at 30°C.

Otherwise, the connection of the device does not differ from its analogues: the inlet hose is connected at one end to the cold water supply outlet, at the other end to the fitting of the washing machine, and the drain hose is discharged into the sewer.

The design of the drum cover did not seem very successful to us: despite the steel hinges that many of our readers value so much, the hatch lock can jam. After studying the problem, we realized that the reason for this was the front panel, to which the hinges of the heavy glass cover are screwed. At the slightest misalignment, the too thin metal from which it is made is deformed, and the lock loses its clear operation. Strengthening this wall would solve the problem.

For programs whose duration is not indicated on the selector, the “Kg Check” function is activated. With its help, the machine estimates the amount of laundry loaded into the tank and the cycle duration corresponding to its weight. Although Candy Aqua does not have a separate half-load wash function, Kg Check allows you to shorten - sometimes quite significantly - cycle times, as well as reduce water and energy consumption. Before starting, the display shows the expected operating time based on the full tank load, and within a few minutes after pressing the “Start” button, the machine determines the weight of the laundry and adjusts the time. After measurements, the “Kg Check” indicator goes out and more accurate numbers appear on the screen.

The estimated time, however, is often slightly less than the actual one. The rinsing and spinning stages actually take much longer than the washing machine promises. This is especially noticeable in the last half hour. Below we will show how this looks in practice.

Between the end of the final spin and the drum unlocking, the machine takes a long pause: about 2 minutes from the moment the rotation stops and the pump turns off.

At the end of the wash, the machine remains in standby mode. The word End on the display remains illuminated until the program selector is returned to the neutral position.

Care

Use a damp cloth to clean the outer surfaces of the case. As with most machines, do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

It is recommended to regularly clean the tray of any residual detergents and additives. To do this, the cassette should be completely removed, applying a little force, rinsed under running water and put back in place.

You also need to monitor the condition of the exhaust filter, cleaning it if necessary. Before turning it inside out, it is recommended to place a rag under it or place a convenient container so that you don’t have to wipe up the puddle later. The filter is then turned counterclockwise, removed and cleaned.

Our measurements

We decided to at least roughly estimate the drum capacity of washing machines. Its shape is not strictly cylindrical, so you can estimate the volume by imagining the drum as a regular shape. In this case, we have a cylinder with a radius of 18 cm and a depth of 24.5 cm. Its volume is 24,938 cm³, that is, approximately 25 liters.

As an experiment, we decided to track the work of the main program with a stopwatch in hand (we used the standard “Clap” program with default settings). This is what we got.

Energy and water consumption

Unfortunately, these parameters are not really given in the instructions, so we offer you the results of our measurements for the programs that we used during the testing process.

Thanks to the small volume of the drum, the washing machine demonstrated excellent efficiency: a small amount of water in the tank does not require significant energy consumption for heating.

Spin

We were also interested in the real spin efficiency, which we measure in grams of water per gram of cotton using the formula: (weight of pressed material - dry weight) / dry weight. 10 terry white towels from Ikea with a total weight of about 1.8 kg were used as reference linen.

Noise

We measured the noise level in a room where washing machines are often installed - the bathroom. The sound level meter was located at a level of 1 m from the floor and at a distance of 1 m from the device, in the center of the front panel.

The maximum power consumed by the machine, recorded during practical tests, was 1534 W. In standby mode, the washing machine consumes 0.6 W, and in off mode - 0.4 W.

Practice tests

To evaluate the basic function of the washing machine, we took a set of the already mentioned white terry towels and applied common and difficult to wash organic stains to them. Let's see how standard programs deal with them.

Cotton, 40 °C

We splashed our hearts on a set of five towels with red wine, soy sauce, ketchup, vegetable oil, blood and cocoa (each towel has a different substance). The stains were dried at room temperature for 24 hours, after which a test wash was loaded.

We used powder for white linen from one of the manufacturers well known both in Russia and in the world. The dosage was calculated according to the instructions on the package.

Contaminated laundry was washed using the standard “Cotton” program at a temperature of 40 °C. The washing machine automatically determined the operating time: approximately 1 hour 48 minutes. The result can be seen in the photos below.

The cocoa and ketchup stains were washed off without a trace, but the red wine, cocoa and blood left barely noticeable traces.

Cotton program, maximum temperature

We renewed the stains on the towels with the same substances as last time, and also left them to dry for a day.

The laundry was washed on the “Cotton” program at maximum (75 °C) temperature. After washing, no matter how hard we tried, we found no traces of blood, cocoa, ketchup or soy sauce. The red wine stains (the most persistent stain in our experience) were still barely noticeable.

To remove stains from this and the previous tests, we washed the fabric again and added bleach.

Result: excellent.

Wool program

To test how Candy Aqua 114D2-07 ​​copes with washing delicate fabrics, we took a large wool blanket weighing about a kilogram and loaded it into the machine, selecting the desired mode.

We were completely satisfied with the result. The machine washed and rinsed the woolen cloth well, which occupied almost the entire volume of the small drum. We found no tissue damage.

Result: excellent.

conclusions

The compact washing machine Candy Aquamatic 114D2-07 ​​demonstrated excellent consumer qualities during practical testing. Despite its toy size, it is not inferior to full-size models in terms of washing quality, and is significantly superior to them in terms of efficiency.

Candy Aqua is one of the smallest washing machines on the market. It is perfect for a small apartment in which a single person or a young family lives, it will fit perfectly under the sink in a combined bathroom, and its low power consumption will allow it to be used even in old houses without major repairs to the electrical network: it will not create a large load.

Due to the miniature size of this model, one can forgive the relatively low spin quality. The only significant drawback that we discovered during practical testing was the not very successful design of the drum cover. Her lock requires careful use and gentle handling.
