Choosing an electric toothbrush: my personal rating of toothbrushes

We all try to take care of our teeth. After all, nature gives us them only twice (and the third time we have to pay for them). Therefore, thoughts about buying an electric toothbrush are the right thoughts. I have some experience in this matter, and decided to share it with you. How and according to what parameters to choose electric toothbrushes. Of course, everything I write below does not claim to be 100% true, but I think it will help you make the right choice.

We will choose a brush based on several parameters. Such as price (this is also important), the number of fluctuations, the presence of smart functions and, of course, the opportunity in the future to find consumables at a reasonable price. In comparison, I will use 5 models of electric toothbrushes:

1. CS Medica SonicMax CS-234

2. Soocas X3

3. DR. BEI Sonic (BET-C01)

4. Oclean Z1

5. MEIZU AET01

6. Xiaomi Mijia T100

In order not to write about each brush separately, I will summarize all the data in a summary table:

ModelOscillation frequencySmart featuresAvailability of consumablesPrice
CS Medica CS-234Up to 40,000 vibrations per minuteNoneAvailable. From 350 rubles offline
Soocas X3up to 37,200 vibrations per minuteAvailableavailable, from $2 per piece on aliexpressFrom 40$
DR. BEI Sonic (BET-C01) up to 31,000 vibrations per minuteNoneavailable, from $2 per piece on aliexpressFrom $21.99
Oclean Z1up to 40,000 vibrations per minuteAvailableavailable, from $7 per pair on aliexpressFrom $39
MEIZU AET01up to 32,000 vibrations per minuteNoneavailable, from $7 per piece on aliexpressFrom 45$
Xiaomi Mijia T100up to 16,500 vibrations per minuteNoneNoneFrom $8

Now I’ll decipher it a little.

Well, first of all, the first thing you need to pay attention to when buying is the amount of vibration. The more there are, the better the brush cleans. But at the same time, you need to not overdo it, since the more fluctuations, the more discomfort the process of brushing your teeth can bring. It is important that the brush has different modes, such as massage, whitening, weak mode, etc. You need to get used to each brush at first. You should not immediately take a brush with a number of vibrations exceeding 30,000 per minute. It might just not be right for you. These brushes take some getting used to. But after such cleaning there will be an excellent result.

The second parameter is smart functions. Some may find them unnecessary. But it is in fine-tuning the process of brushing teeth that a successful result lies. If the brush has functions for setting modes through an application on your smartphone, you can customize it to suit you. Set the frequency and oscillation mode, set other parameters, track statistics, track the time of use of attachments, etc. Which in my opinion is very convenient.

The third parameter is the availability of consumables. That is, spare brush attachments. Everything is simple here. If you have chosen a model. Just type in the model on Aliexpress and see how much spare nozzles cost. Often, if you buy a brush inexpensively, you may find that a spare head will cost up to one-third of the price of the brush. And then the understanding comes that we did not buy a cheap option.

And the last parameter is the starting price for the brush. Well, everything is simple here. We look at how much we are psychologically ready to pay for a brush, and we buy based on this amount. But I’ll say right away that a normal electric brush costs at least $40. Everything that is cheaper has compromises in the form of expensive consumables, or a low oscillation frequency, or something else.

Well, now my personal rating of electric toothbrushes . (Naturally, not claiming to be the only true one)

6. In sixth place I would put Xiaomi Mijia T100

This is an entry-level electric toothbrush. It does not have a very powerful motor, which produces a small amount of vibration. The consumable is the brush itself. This option is more suitable for children. But I know that adults also buy this model for themselves. The advantages are, first of all, the price, and availability to order.

5. In fifth place is MEIZU AET01

This brush has good run time and sufficient vibration mode. Of the minuses, I would note the lack of smart functions and the problem with finding consumables. There aren't any yet.

4. In fourth place is DR. BEI Sonic (BET-C01)

This is a relatively simple brush. But it has a good oscillation frequency, which gives good results in cleaning teeth. There are no smart functions here, but the brush has a very affordable price. it can be used as an initial option to test whether you need an electric brush. Well, brush consumables are still poorly available.

3. In third place I would put Oclean Z1.

Everything is fine with the modes here too. In addition, this brush has up to 40,000 vibrations per minute, which gives simply excellent results in cleaning and whitening teeth. There is an application with the ability to fine-tune the work. The only downside here is the overpriced consumables. (but I think it's temporary)

2. In second place I will put Soocas X3

This is a brush that is truly considered popular. It has an affordable price, has all the necessary functions, the number of vibrations gives an excellent result, and also has several operating modes. Well, the price of consumables is simply ridiculous.

1. In first place I would put the Medica SonicMax CS-234 brush

The first and biggest advantage of this brush is, of course, its accessibility. These toothbrushes can be purchased at most stores that sell household appliances and electronics. At the same time, the price of the brush is quite affordable. Naturally, this plus also applies to consumables. You can also buy attachments without any problems right away, without having to wait several weeks for delivery from China. At the same time, the brush has quite advanced characteristics: 5 operating modes (Sensitive, Daily, Massage, Polishing, Whitening). The brush operates at a high sound frequency, making 40,000 movements per minute. The brush head creates vibrations, ensuring the formation of homogeneous foam for better cleansing of teeth and interdental spaces. The brush also gently massages the gums, preventing gum disease. The energy-intensive battery will allow the brush to work for up to 4 weeks without recharging. This is very convenient when traveling. In addition, the device has functions such as automatic shut-off and an intermediate timer. A special bristle wear indicator will tell you when it's time to replace the brush head. The device can be charged from USB or electrical outlet.

I really hope that this comparison article will help you. And you will decide for yourself the choice. Of course, someone may notice that I took only 5 models for comparison. But I consider these brushes to be one of the most popular, affordable and optimal in terms of price/quality ratio.

  • cheap.

Flaws:

  • not a stable base;
  • inconvenient to clean between teeth;
  • no place to store attachments;
  • buzzes loudly;
  • after a year and a half of operation, it holds a charge less;
  • high cost of nozzles;
  • The timer is fixed, parameters cannot be set, which, according to users, is not very convenient.

Dentists' opinions on electric toothbrushes

Most dentists recommend electric brushes to their patients, which are certainly capable of removing soft, pigmented and partially mineralized plaque.
Electric brushes require lower abrasive toothpastes with an RDA 50 index. Despite their effectiveness, they have a number of contraindications, so when choosing a toothbrush, it is better to consult your dentist. When should you not use mechanical toothbrushes?

  • With increased tooth wear. The mechanical impact creates quite strong friction, which can worsen their condition.
  • At the initial stage of caries - white myeloid spots on the teeth. The enamel in these places has a low calcium content, and active mechanical action can damage the tooth, leading to full-fledged caries and the need for tooth filling. In principle, using an electric toothbrush in this case is possible, but the affected teeth must undergo a course of remineralization.
  • If there are deposits on the teeth, mechanical models can lead to an exacerbation of gum inflammation, so all deposits must be removed from the teeth before using the device.

All these comments apply equally to sonic brushes.

Ultrasonic brushes also have contraindications:

  • Their use may shorten the lifespan of veneers, fillings and crowns.
  • Like mechanical ones, you should not use ultrasonic toothbrushes for teeth with the initial stage of caries in the form of white spots.
  • They should absolutely not be used for acute gum diseases, because Ultrasound increases blood circulation, which can cause the spread of infection. However, in case of chronic gingivitis after removing dental plaque, ultrasound can have a slight anti-inflammatory effect. For periodontitis, dentists do not recommend the use of an ultrasonic toothbrush.
  • Pregnant women and people with a pacemaker should consult a physician before purchasing.
  • The use of this device is strictly contraindicated for people with tumors in the oral cavity.

If your teeth and gums are in good condition, you can safely use any electric toothbrush without harming your health.

Types of electric toothbrushes

Electric toothbrushes are classified according to their cleaning method: mechanical (rotary), sonic and ultrasonic. Each type has its own advantages:

1 The mechanical one is similar to the usual manual ones; its head makes from 5 to 30 thousand oscillatory movements.

2 Sound has a built-in high-frequency generator. When brushing teeth, in addition to mechanical movements, sound waves are used, which improves the quality of cleansing. In addition, it simulates sweeping movements at high head rotation speeds.

3 Ultrasonic has a built-in ultrasonic frequency generator with an operating frequency of around 1.6 MHz. This type removes not only plaque, but also the microbes and bacteria that form it.
