You loaded the dishes into the Bosch machine, started the washer and got down to business around the house. The dishwasher was whirring as usual, but at some point it stopped, and you discovered that:

  • “Crane” flashes on the display and code E15 lights up;
  • the drain pump has turned on and is constantly running (sometimes even when the power is turned off);
  • The dishwasher does not respond to any commands.

You may have tried to unplug the dishwasher and restart the dishwasher. But it did not help. Code E15 appears on the screen again, and the drain pump is noisy. Let's figure out what are the reasons for the appearance of E15 in a Bosch dishwasher and what to do to get rid of the error.

Error interpretation

Code E15 means that the leakage sensor of the Aquastop system has tripped in the Bosch dishwasher tray. The reason, as a rule, is a leak in the machine itself or in the communications surrounding it. Water enters the pan, the sensor float floats up and the Aquastop leak protection system is activated.

Note! When the leakage protection system is triggered, the drain pump is always turned on. It pumps out any remaining water in the dishwasher to prevent further flooding.

When error E15 occurs in a Bosch dishwasher, the “Tap” indicator always lights up. It signals that the dishwasher has cut off the water supply.

Why does E 15 light up on the PMM screen?

You can decipher any error code that may appear on the electronic display of your Bosch dishwasher by looking at the operating instructions. But often the manufacturers’ explanations are stingy with recommendations for troubleshooting themselves and a detailed explanation of the cause of the breakdown.

Error E15 notifies the user that the Aquastop leak protection has tripped. The system generates this error if water gets into the pan of the machine or the float sensor is stuck. The reasons for displaying the E15 alphanumeric code are as follows:

  1. The leakage sensor has failed.
  2. The drainage system or one of its components is clogged.
  3. The pipes are depressurized or worn out.
  4. The integrity of the sprinkler is compromised.

Code e15 is the most popular in Bosch dishwashers. Fortunately, you can fix the problem yourself, without the help of a specialist.

Experienced users who often encounter code errors are advised to carry out the following simple steps to reset the error:

  • Unplug the machine.
  • Tilt it at a 45-degree angle or try moving the machine slightly in place.
  • Drain the water from the pan by tilting the machine at the desired angle.
  • Dry the equipment - usually 24 hours are enough for complete drying.

For those users who have acquired built-in appliances installed in a kitchen niche, this procedure for solving the problem is not suitable. But still, removing the device from the cabinet is sometimes easier than calling a specialist and paying for his work. Such a reset usually saves you from the code burning on the screen for a long time, and the operation of the PMM returns to normal. If the manipulations are unsuccessful and the display shows E15, you will have to look for faults and repair the breakdown.

On a note! Excess foam leads to leaks, and the cause of excess foam is non-compliance with the dosage of the detergent. Carefully read the instructions for using your washing powder or gel.

When error E15 can be corrected yourself

  • Leakage in the utilities surrounding the dishwasher. Check whether the sewerage, plumbing, or pipes located near the dishwasher are leaking. You may have recently spilled water on the floor or countertop where your machine is located. All this could cause water to get into the pan and cause error E 15 to appear. Fix the leak, and the problem will disappear.
  • Filters clogged. Not only does it make it difficult for the dishwasher to drain, but it also leads to poor water circulation during the washing process and overflow. As a result of overflow, water enters the pan and Aquastop is triggered. Clogged filters must be cleaned. Moreover, the manufacturer Bosch recommends doing this after every dishwashing. Also, do not forget to clean any large food debris when loading dishes.
  • Using hand dishwashing detergents. Some inexperienced users, instead of special powder and rinse aid for dishwashers, pour Fairy-type hand wash products into the machine. This leads to violent foaming. Foam gets into the PMM pan, and error E15 occurs. In this case, you must immediately turn off the dishwasher and unplug the cord from the outlet. Let it dry for two to three days. If after this the dishwasher does not work, it means that the electronics are flooded, and you are in need of repair or replacement of the control unit.
  • Excess powder or use of low-quality detergents. Rarely, but it happens. As in the previous reason, it leads to excessive foam formation (but in a smaller volume than when using Fairy) and its entry into the pan. “Treated” with the same methods.
  • Adding water from the sewer. A rare story, usually happens with Bosch dishwashers, the drain of which is connected to the sink siphon. If something somewhere in the sewer is clogged and the siphon overflows, then water is poured through the drain path into the machine. When this happens during washing, the machine overflows and error E 15 lights up. To fix the problem, you need to clean the siphon or drain to restore normal drainage from the sink. To prevent re-filling, it is recommended to raise the drain hose to the level of the sink (make a loop), install a check valve on the PMM drain, or even lead it directly into the sewer, bypassing the sink siphon.

Note! After eliminating the cause of error E15, it is necessary to remove water from the pan. Without this, you will not be able to start the washer. You can drain the water by tilting the dishwasher back, wipe it with a rag by dismantling the side wall, or simply wait a few days until the water and foam dry out on its own.

For what reasons does a Bosch dishwasher give an error?

How does the problem manifest itself? The machine stops working, the display shows code E 15 or the “faucet” icon lights up. This means that the water leakage protection or “Aquastop” has been activated. To understand the cause of the problem, let's look at the features of the protection.

In the PMM, the bottom is located at a slight slope. At the bottom there is a foam float. When water gets in, the float floats up and puts pressure on the sensor. As a result, the protection is triggered, the drain pump is turned on to pump out water, and an error is displayed on the display.

In some cases, the pump does not turn off and runs continuously, even if the dishwasher is turned off. Therefore, it is better to “cut off” the equipment from the network, otherwise the pump or switch may burn out.

What could cause the water leak:

  1. Incorrect operation of the leakage sensor.
  2. There is a blockage in the drainage tract (filter, pump, hose, pipe).
  3. Poor sealing of the pipe.
  4. Problems with the water spray (rocker arm).

Important! The formation of a large amount of foam can also cause the float switch to trip. Use detergent in doses, strictly according to the instructions.

Possible faults requiring repair

E 15 is a common error that RemBytTech technicians encounter when repairing Bosch dishwashers. Here is a list of possible breakdowns that cause the error.

SignsBreakingRepair or replacementCost* (work only)
The Bosch dishwasher writes error E15 and the faucet is drawn. The PMM does not respond to commands, the drain pump is noisy. The first time the error appeared was during filling, draining water or during washing. Leaking connections inside the dishwasher (pipes, hoses, pumps). The most common cause of the error. Basically, the drainage or water circulation paths leak, and rarely the flood paths. The technician checks the drainage, circulation, and water intake tracts and finds out the location of the leak.
Based on the diagnostic results, he tightens the clamps, replaces worn seals and seals. If hoses and/or pipes are damaged, they are replaced with new ones.
from 1900 rub.
On the Bosch dishwasher, error E15 and the “Faucet” indicator are on, the drain pump does not turn off.
The error first occurred during the wash cycle.
Clogged filters located at the bottom of the PMM. They purify the water from food residues, preventing them from entering the recirculation pump. When they become clogged, water does not circulate well during washing, overflow occurs in the washing tank, and an error light comes on. The dishwasher filters need cleaning.On your own or from 1300 rubles.
When draining, error E15 and “Tap” came on, the drain pump works and does not turn off.Drain hose leaking. Its connection to the sewer or drain pump has become depressurized. Or the hose is damaged. The disconnected hose is fixed in its original place. If damaged, the master replaces it with a new one. from 1500 rub.
While washing the Bosch PMM, it displays error E15, the “Tap” flashes and the drain turns on. The dishwasher won't turn off. Leaking pan seal in the washing tank. A common leak in Bosch dishwashers after five years of use. The rubber seal becomes unusable and begins to let water into the pan. The seal needs to be replaced. The master uses a pallet repair kit for repairs. from 1800 rub.
Corrosion and leakage of the washing chamber. Happens rarely and only in Bosch dishwashers with a long service life. The stamping areas at the bottom of the tank near the glass are rotting and leaking. The holes are usually small. A temporary solution is to seal the holes with high-temperature sealant.
Such repairs can extend the life of the machine by up to 1 year. To completely forget about the leak, you need to replace the tank with a new one.
from 3000 rub.
An error appeared on the sink, and the faucet blinked on the display. The PMM does not respond to buttons, the drain pump is constantly running. The door seal is worn or damaged. Because of this, water flows through the dishwasher door onto the floor during washing, from there it flows into the pan and the error light comes on. The seal needs to be replaced.from 1800 rub.
A Bosch dishwasher that has been standing in an unheated room in winter displays error E15 when filling with water and does not wash dishes.The salt tank or heat exchanger canister is cracked. There is always water left in the PMM after washing. If the machine is left in a room with a negative temperature for a long time, the water will freeze, and the ice can rupture plastic vessels, hoses and pipes. If you turn on the wash on such a machine, a leak will occur. The heat exchanger canister, salt tank and other damaged components need to be replaced.from 2000 rub.
The machine shows error E 15, although there is no leakage (the dishwasher tray is dry).Aquastop sensor . Stuck and erroneously reports a leak. The sensor needs to be repaired or replaced.from 1900 rub.
Control block. The elements that control the operation of the leakage protection system have burned out. The technician finds out which elements in the module have failed and resolders them with new ones. In case of serious damage to the board or failure of the processor, the entire control unit is replaced. from 2500 rub.

Diagnosis of error E15

Bosch's range of classic dishwashers are somewhat easier to diagnose. Mainly thanks to clearly marked error indicators on the front panel. Of course, any Bosch dishwasher comes with instructions indicating a list of all possible malfunctions and errors that may occur, and there are also tips on what to do to eliminate them.

However, most cases indicate that they are not written in a language that is understandable to the average dishwasher owner, so they are not as useful as we would like.

One of the errors that usually bothers us the most is E15 or “Check the Water”. It is also often called on forums “the problem when the aquastop worked.” In fact, both of these names mean the same thing: you need to fix the problem with the water supply.

Don’t panic right away; you can fix this problem yourself.
To do this, it is not at all necessary to call a specialist who will charge half the cost of a new device for his services. See also -

Why does PMM give an error?

The E 15 icons on the display indicate that the Aquastop protection has been activated (the explanation is also indicated in the instructions). In this case, the equipment turns off and can emit a sound signal. The protection system is triggered when water overflows or leaks. You may hear the sump pump start to remove water, but the control panel will not respond.

What to do in this case? We need to find the cause of the problem. To do this you need to check:

  • connections of pipes and hoses, as well as their integrity;
  • correct connection to the water supply system;
  • filters and drain system for blockages;
  • “Aquastop” sensor for serviceability;
  • water level sensor.

Why else could the dishwasher show a fault code? The cause could be an incorrectly selected detergent. Excess foam leads to leaks and errors.
