Progress is inevitable – as is the invasion of Chinese brands.

However, our selection also includes brands that are not exactly Chinese. There is also a choice in terms of preference for certain characteristics. Do you want more memory? Or a more or less decent camera? Or maybe a large display? There are options. Another thing is that it is almost impossible to combine all this by paying 10 thousand rubles or less. Although, again, the key word is “almost.” Go!

⇡#Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus

We start with the main character of the collection, for whom the word “almost” was used. This is, of course, the Redmi smartphone, which manages to combine good performance (a similar platform is installed in other smartphones for 25 thousand), a decent camera, a metal body with a fingerprint scanner and a fashionable elongated display with Full HD resolution with a diagonal of six inches. Essentially, a gentleman's set for a modern smartphone of any level. It’s comfortable to use, it’s not a shame to put it on the table (or even vice versa - in certain circles you will be considered one of your own due to your intelligence and frugality), and the shortcomings are not noticeable.

But they also exist. To fully enter the club, there is not enough NFC, support for the 20th LTE band and, of course, official status. You have to buy in China or from “gray” suppliers - and don’t rely on a guarantee. The main thing is to check that it is a global version and not a Chinese one, then you won’t need to reflash it.

Alternative: Xiaomi Redmi 6 A. This is an official version on the same topic - newer (with Android 8.0), with a smaller screen (5.45 inches) and “thinner” (1440 × 720), as well as with a weaker platform (Mediatek Helio A22), but without the danger of running into problems for the Chinese version. Another obvious hit, doomed to success in our (and not only) market.

The victory in the “Debut of the Year” nomination goes to a longtime guest of all kinds of top sales - Vivo. Previously, the company was there solely for its domestic merits in China, but now it has finally begun its global expansion. There hasn't been much success with middle-class smartphones yet, but in the budget segment the offer with the Y81 looks very nice. This is not the most powerful, but probably the most fashionable smartphone for the money. The display is huge, but with a low resolution for its 6.2 inches. The body is thin, but plastic. There is no fingerprint scanner. But there is a lot of both RAM and non-volatile memory.

In principle, the Vivo Y81 is made of similar compromises, but the positive qualities in it, in my opinion, outweigh the negative ones. And there is an excellent bonus - the smartphone is officially sold in Russia, the price indicated is “white”. No orders from China or dancing with the firmware.

Alternative: Alcatel 3 V. Another smartphone with a large display - in this case, six inches and without a monobrow, but with Full HD resolution. Another nice compromise option: in this case you will have to sacrifice performance - the Mediatek MT8735 platform does not shine at all. And the memory is no longer 3/32 GB, but 2/16 GB. But there is a fingerprint scanner.

Honor 7A Pro

A pleasant smartphone in almost all respects: with the current version of Android and, probably, the fastest shell for it, with a very good design (even with a plastic body), a fingerprint scanner and a good brand reputation - it’s more difficult to run into defects when buying Honor than, for example, when choosing Xiaomi. The lack of flash memory is compensated by a microSD memory card placed in a separate slot.

But if you are not a “huafan” (yes, that’s the official name of fans of the brand), then this offer will not seem so tempting to you - it’s difficult to prefer the 7A Pro to the same Redmi 5 Plus. But with Redmi 6A, which is also officially sold at a similar price, it competes quite well in the same category. Which of these two devices to choose is already a debatable question, and I will not undertake to answer it directly.

7 A. The same cabbage soup, but pour in thinner. The screen is smaller, the design is more primitive, the Mediatek platform is one and a half thousand cheaper.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 64GB – a solid option for games in 2021

Next in line is last year's mobile phone from the Chinese, Xiaomi Mi Max 2, which, despite being slightly behind compared to this year's mobile phones, is suitable for those who like to play. The phone is available in three shades - white, black and gold. It features a capacious battery and a powerful processor that runs mobile games in a jiffy. The cost of the device is 13 thousand rubles.

Pros:

• Large amount of internal memory for this price segment;

The main drawback is considered to be the lagging behind of the model, since Xiaomi Mi Max 2 was released in 2021.

Alternative: Elephone P9000.
But this, to be honest, is a dubious alternative on formal grounds. A little-known brand with unstable product quality - but with 4 GB of RAM, NFC and a not very large Full HD display.

Motorola Moto E5 16GB – a stylish model that will help you stand out

Next, the Motorola Moto E5 hits the low-cost smartphone list. The main feature of the mobile phone is its unique design, which will seem unique compared to modern smartphones. Otherwise the phone is average. The price is 10 thousand rubles, available in two colors - gold and black.

The main advantages of the device are as follows:

Due to the latest version of pure Android (and quickly updated), the “damage” from a weak hardware platform is reduced - using Nokia 3.1 will be moderately pleasant. This feeling is reinforced by a very nice design, due to which, in fact, the smartphone made it into our rating.

Alternative: Sony Xperia L1 .
Instead of a completely fresh Nokia, there’s last year’s budget Xperia. The exchange, at first glance, is so-so, but in essence they are very similar: the platform of the Sony smartphone is even weaker, it has the same amount of permanent memory and RAM. And there is about the same amount of charm: L1 has preserved the traditions of the brand, this is the very “building block” that Xperia was for many years in a row - and which it ceased to be quite recently.

Huawei P10 Lite 3/32GB

A very stylish and at the same time inexpensive device from Huawei, which is one of the world leaders in the smartphone market. This device cannot be called very cheap, but it is really budget-friendly if you compare its cost with many competitors. Meanwhile, Huawei P10 Lite has several important features.

The first one is immediately noticeable - it's stunning appearance. The smartphone is made of glass and steel, but the tone is set by extremely unusual color shades. Take a look at the back cover - impressive, isn't it?

And what can stop you is already stated above. Alas, the “official” M6s is noticeably more expensive. The story is the same as with Redmi 5 Plus, with which it can compete in terms of performance and design (the blue version is good), but to which it is inferior in terms of screen (both diagonal and resolution are smaller). The cameras are approximately equal.

Alternative: Meizu M6 Note . A smartphone that meets our price conditions with even greater difficulty - and stands out primarily for its camera, Full HD display and very good battery life. The combination of a 5.5-inch panel and a 4000 mAh battery is excellent!

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 3/32GB

Let's talk about inexpensive 5.5-inch devices and here again we have Xiaomi as one of the leaders in inexpensive smartphones.

In terms of design, it is similar to the Redmi 4X, but the entire body is different, and the specifications are slightly different. Thus, this model received a higher resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM (in this version). The cameras are similar, there is a fingerprint scanner, and a good 4100 mAh battery.

Most importantly, the Redmi Note 4X is only slightly more expensive than its “little brother” Redmi 4X, so if you want a smartphone with a larger display, we recommend taking a closer look at the Note 4X.

Come on, it's cheaper! Since January, when we reviewed the ASUS Zenfone Max Plus (M1), the smartphone has dropped up to six thousand rubles and fit exactly within the scope of our “Guide”. For this money, the offer is really excellent. First of all, due to a really decent camera (perhaps the best among those presented here) and a powerful battery, the smartphone is quite capable of lasting a couple of days without recharging.

It doesn't shine, but it has enough memory. It’s especially pleasing that the proposed 32 GB can be expanded using a microSD card without sacrificing a second SIM card. There are few such devices today.

Alternative: BQ BQ-5510 Strike Power Max 4 G. There are no more frills here like a Full HD display or dual camera. Only autonomy and cheapness, only hardcore. 5000 milliamp-hours is half that of the ever-memorable Oukitel K10000, but Strike Power uses them much more efficiently. And the quality is much more stable.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017)

Samsung models are traditionally more expensive than their Chinese counterparts, but the demand for them is still very high - due to the quality of workmanship, the well-known brand, good characteristics, as well as the appearance of the device itself.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) looks very good and is definitely much more expensive than its cost. On the back of the case you can see a metal cover, which, however, cannot be removed - the case is non-separable. There is a flash under the camera eye.

Alternative : Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A Prime and Ulefone Mix . There are two alternatives here. Another Redmi, simple and weak, but with a ton of memory. And another smartphone from a well-known brand in narrow circles - with a design like Mi MIX and the same amount of memory. Game, yes, but game worthy of attention.

OUKITEL K5000 - powerful battery

Another budget-class smartphone with a large battery, the OUKITEL K5000 is clad in a metal and plastic body and has an IPS display with a diagonal of 5.7 inches and a resolution of 1440 × 720 pixels, covered with rounded 2.5D glass. 2. The cameras are typical for a budget employee - an 8-megapixel main one with flash and autofocus and a 2-megapixel selfie camera.
3. The operating system is relatively new - Android 7.0. The battery has a capacity of 2150 mAh. The model is available only in black body color.
4. Fly Champ is an unremarkable budget phone with an attractive price of 4,490 rubles.

Which budget smartphone is better to buy?

A direct question, as they say. If you want to buy a good budget smartphone, then at a minimum you must decide what the word “good” means to you. Because for some, good means high-quality and durable, but for another person, good means a powerful and productive smartphone. What type are you?

In general, I don't like LG smartphones. In 2021 they are unreasonably expensive. In terms of price/quality, they are definitely somewhere in last place.

And in general, speaking about quality, I dare say that its boundaries are very blurred today. You can buy a Chinese smartphone 3-4 times cheaper than a famous brand and get a very high-quality device. Or, on the contrary, you can pay for “quality” and get poop in a candy wrapper. My personal opinion is that the quality of modern smartphones is approximately the same for all more or less popular brands. Naturally, I do not include all sorts of Texet, Dexp and other similar nonsense among such brands. But some famous “Chinese” (Xiaomi, for example) make quite decent products that are no worse than well-promoted brands with a long history.

If I now wanted to buy myself a good budget smartphone worth up to 6000 (ultra budget), then most likely I would opt for the Fly Cirrus 13 . Ask why? There are good reasons.

Firstly, its characteristics surpass all smartphones in this price range. Judge for yourself. If 2 GB of RAM on a smartphone today does not surprise anyone, then at least a factory-overclocked processor operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz is a significant plus. Thirdly, I am currently using a Fly IQ444 Quattro phone, and I am more than satisfied with its quality. There is still not a single scratch on the glass, even though it has been with me in many troubles over the 4 years of its life.

Yes, of course Fly has a lot of shitty smartphone models, but some are downright impressive. It’s just that if you decide to buy a smartphone, no matter what price category it is in and no matter how confident you are in its manufacturer, you need to read real reviews on forums specifically about the model that interests you .
