Failure of the heating element
As a rule, the coil in the heating elements burns out or the housing burns out. In the latter case, water gets on the coil and a short circuit occurs. Almost always, the failure of a heating element is associated with scale: impurities from tap water, particles of undissolved powder, lint and debris from clothing - all this sticks to the body of the heating element and reduces its thermal conductivity. Trying to heat the water to the desired temperature, the “overgrown” heater works too intensely. Because of this, the spiral burns out or the housing burns out.

Failure E1 appears in the event of a malfunction in the liquid filling system. The presence of a fault does not allow washing to be performed.
Water leak
The average time it takes to fill the tank with water is 4-5 minutes. If during this period the water does not reach the required level, there is a high probability of leakage.
Causes
The causes of failure often lie in the breakdown of internal mechanisms. The error is mainly related to the drainage system and the leakage sensor.
Depressurization of elements of the filler and drain system
Depressurization occurs due to damage to the elements. In this case, it is necessary to replace or restore integrity.
Leak control sensor
Lack of leakage control leads to disruption of the drain and fill of water. A broken sensor must be repaired or replaced.
Pump fault
Over time, the drain pump becomes clogged with debris (lint, small items forgotten in pockets, clothing accessories, coins). Because of this, it “jams” and/or the pump motor fails or the impeller blades break.

DIY repair
For amateur repair of an LG washing machine, you will need a very modest arsenal:
- Phillips and flat screwdrivers;
- wrenches 10 and 17;
- multimeter;
- phase indicator.
In some cases, adhesive or sealant may be required.
The machine itself can tell you what exactly needs to be repaired. In the event of a malfunction, a special code is displayed on its display, which can be used to approximately determine the cause of the problem.
When disassembling the machine, you should not rely on your memory. Before disconnecting, mark the contacts and their corresponding connectors, or better yet, take photographs. This applies not only to electrics, but also to all kinds of fasteners and components that you intend to dismantle.
Malfunction of the control module (electronic controller)
As with any SMA, the control module in LG is responsible for all the “intelligent” operation of the washing machine. Most often, its breakdowns are associated with power surges or moisture ingress. Bearing failure
The main reason for bearing failure is wear during operation due to vibration load. As a rule, machines with a service life of more than 5 years are susceptible to this. However, if the LG was used very heavily or was systematically overloaded, breakdown may occur sooner. The mechanics of failure are simple: vibrations cause the bearings to gradually become loose, the seal weakens, water gets inside, the bearing rusts and collapses.

Engine failure
As a rule, LG motors fail due to an interturn short circuit in the stator or rotor windings. Sometimes the lamellas peel off in LG models with a commutator motor.

Water does not drain from the machine
The signal on the board is “OE”. First of all, you need to empty the tank through the emergency drain. To get to it, open the hatch at the bottom.
Now you can look for the reason:
- Unscrew the drain filter and clean it and the area adjacent to it from dirt.
- Switch the unit to the “drain” mode and look through the hole under the filter at the pump impeller - has it started rotating? If not, you need to disassemble the pump and check whether the impeller is jammed by a foreign object. It can also jam due to the formation of strong backlash. Depending on the detected defects, the pump is repaired or replaced.
If the pump is working properly, you should start cleaning the drain hose connected to it.
Drain line clogged
Hair, animal fur, fabric lint, small debris, detergent residue - all this can lead to blockages in the drain pipe, filter, pump, drain hose or sewer. Because of this, water does not leave the tank or leaves very slowly.

Other faults
There are several more common malfunctions that the owner of an LV washing machine may encounter:
- The machine is electrocuted. If the grounding is working properly, the reason may lie in a violation of the wire insulation. To fix the defect, you will not need an LG washing machine circuit diagram. It will be enough to visually inspect the integrity of the wires and contacts.
- There is no water heating. As a rule, the reason lies in a faulty heating element. The heating element is located at the bottom of the tank and can be replaced by removing the front panel.
Do not forget that you can start repairing equipment yourself only after the end of the warranty period (for motors with direct drive it reaches 10 years). If the malfunction cannot be resolved, if there are signs of tampering, the washing machine will be removed from the warranty and the service center will have to be paid for in full.
Fill valve failure
The fill valve consists of a membrane and an electromagnetic coil, which is responsible for opening the membrane. Over time, the coil fails, and as a result, the membrane does not open and water does not flow into the washing machine. If a single-section valve is installed, water does not flow in at all. Motor brush wear
Most modern LG washing machines are produced with direct drive, while older models used a commutator type motor. These motors have graphite brushes. They are responsible for transmitting voltage from the stator to the rotor, and create torque to rotate the drum. As you use the brushes, they wear out and the motor power decreases. If the brushes are short, the machine cannot reach high spin speeds. If they are completely worn out (less than 1 centimeter), the drum does not rotate at all.

The drum does not spin, what should I do?
Sometimes the drum in an LG washing machine stops spinning. In this case, you should turn off the machine, drain the water, open the door and try to turn the drum manually. If the drum does not rotate, it means it is jammed. This situation can arise for various reasons. For example, LG top-loading washing machines may have doors that open and become caught on the heating element or other part.
Sometimes the drive belt slips off and has to be replaced along with the bearing. The bearings themselves fail due to wear of the seal, which allows air and water to pass through due to loss of elasticity. A foreign object may get caught between the tub and the drum, preventing rotation.
Another reason may be failure of the drive belt due to breaks or weakening. Sometimes the brushes of the electric motor fail, and the motor itself becomes faulty due to water leaks or voltage surges. More precise reasons for the failure of drum rotation are established only after disassembling the washing machine and diagnostics.
