What is a dishwasher set?

Companies that produce household kitchen appliances have their own idea of a standard set of dishes, according to which it includes items necessary for one person to eat.

Placing dishes in the PMM

Discrepancies in this concept arise due to differences in the sizes of the utensils used. For example, in Europe, wide and flat plates are more often used; they take up much less space in the washing chamber than Russian deep ones. Flat dishes for soup can be placed sideways in the basket, deep dishes must be placed at an angle so that they are washed thoroughly.

What is included

It is believed that a generally accepted set of dishes includes the following items:

  • 1 soup bowl;
  • 1 flat plate;
  • salad bowl;
  • tea pair;
  • wineglass;
  • cutlery (knife, fork, spoons).

But it is worth noting that the average dishwasher set is not a strictly regulated concept. In accordance with European standards, the cookware set includes some additional items.

Is a dishwasher profitable?

Oh yes! No

It is also important that manufacturers do not take into account such necessary household utensils as:

  • pots;
  • frying pans;
  • ladle;
  • shoulder blades;
  • baking sheets;
  • graters;
  • cutting boards.

Therefore, keep in mind that these items will also take up some space in the washing chamber.

Types of PMM by kit

Based on capacity, dishwashers are divided into three large categories:

  • compact;
  • narrow;
  • full-sized.

Choose what suits your family based on its needs and the number of people.

1-2 sets

Miniature desktop machines are designed for such a volume of dishes as 1-2 sets. They do not require connection to a central water supply system.

At the same time, they are equipped with the necessary functionality. For example, we can name the MINI series dishwashers from the Chinese company Midea. It is convenient to take such PMMs with you to the dacha in the summer.

Midea MCFD-0606

4-8 sets

Compact devices wash 4-8 sets in one working cycle. The machine includes small pots and pans. Accordingly, because of this, there will be less space for plates in the hopper.

Among the dishwashers designed for a given volume of dishes, we can name such options as:

  • freestanding Candy CDCF 6;
  • partially built-in Siemens SK 76M544.

6-14 sets

Narrow dishwashers can hold 6-10 sets, but despite their small dimensions, premium models are designed for a larger volume - up to 14. For example, the following machines have a capacity of 9-12 sets:

  • Siemens SN 615X00 DR;
  • Beko DFN 05310 W.

Loaded dishes

12-17 sets

Full-size machines are the most capacious; they process 12-17 sets of dishes in one working cycle:

  • Electrolux EES 948300 L – 14.
  • Asko DFI 675GXXL.P – 17.

20+ sets

Professional dishwashers are capable of washing a large number of dishes: frontal, dome and boiler washing. Their efficiency is measured by the number of plates processed per hour. The washing process in industrial machines is carried out in special cassettes.

How many items are included in the set?

First, let's look at how dishwasher manufacturers understand the phrase “dish set.” How many dishes are included in the set? It seems like a simple question, but it turns out to be not so easy to answer.

Typically, a set of dishes refers to those items that are necessary for one person to have a full meal, namely:

  • soup bowl;
  • a flat plate for the second course;
  • salad plate;
  • saucer;
  • coffee or tea mug;
  • a spoon and a fork.

As you can see, the set includes only 6 items. As for cooking utensils, they are not taken into account when determining the capacity of the dishwasher. This applies to frying pans, pots, ladles, cutting boards, bowls and other utensils.

However, the minimum set included in the kit may also be different. And this is where some disagreements arise between producers and consumers. The kit, which is taken by manufacturers for calculations, usually includes standard dishes, characterized by a flatter shape, for example, as in the photo.

A flat soup plate that can easily be placed sideways in the compartment will take up much less space than a non-standard deep plate. In order for a non-standard plate to be washed well, you will have to place it upside down or at least at an angle. This means that a set of such dishes will take up more space. This applies not only to soup plates, but also to salad bowls, cups or glasses. Today, the variety of dishes is great; everyone’s dishes are different, both in shape and size.

Important! A set of dishes does not mean special dishes, such as for a microwave oven. Almost all dishes can be washed in the dishwasher, but there are exceptions.

Do not put in the dishwasher:

  • dishes made of aluminum, aluminum oxidizes over time;
  • silver dishes;
  • plastic dishes susceptible to hot temperatures;
  • porcelain objects with painted elements;
  • wooden boards, spatulas, spoons and knives with wooden handles;
  • Not all car models can wash crystal.

Dishwasher capacity

According to capacity and, accordingly, size, all dishwashers can be divided into three large groups:

  • Small or compact dishwashers, which include from 4 to 8 sets of standard dishes. Most models have a capacity of 6 sets. You can put a small frying pan and pots in this dishwasher, if you put fewer dishes or wash cooking utensils separately. Not all oven trays are included.
  • Narrow floor-standing dishwashers (their width is 45 cm). This dishwasher washes 9-12 standard sets; there are models for 13 and even 14 premium sets.
  • A full-size dishwasher washes 12 to 17 standard place settings.

How to choose a dishwasher by capacity

When choosing a dishwasher, be sure to evaluate its actual capacity, and not what is indicated in the passport. Imagine how many dishes you use you can load in it. Typically, for a family of 1-2 people, a compact dishwasher with a capacity of 6 sets is sufficient. For example, models:

  • Candy CDCF 6 – freestanding;
  • Bosch SKE 52M55 – partially built-in;
  • Siemens SK 76M544 – partially built-in.

For a family of 4-5 people, it is best to choose a dishwasher with a capacity of at least 8 sets, optimally 9-10. For example, models:

  • Bosch SPV 53M00 – fully built-in (9 sets);
  • Bosch SPV 58M50 – fully built-in (10 sets);
  • Hansa ZIM 428 EH fully built-in (10 sets);
  • AEG F 65402 VI – fully built-in (12 sets).

For a large family, without hesitation, you should buy a dishwasher that washes at least 12 sets at a time. The optimal option would be 14 – 17 sets.

  • Bosch SMS 40D02 – freestanding (12 sets);
  • Siemens SN 26M285 – freestanding (14 sets);
  • Siemens SN 55M540 – partially built-in (13 sets);
  • Hansa ZWM 646 IEH – freestanding (14 sets);
  • Asko D 5554 XXL FI – fully built-in (17 sets).

Very often, the capacity of the dishwasher is not a decisive criterion. But the size and dimensions are more important, since there is simply nowhere to put a full-sized dishwasher for 12 sets in a small kitchen. Then it is better to opt for a narrow model. Otherwise, to wash dishes you will have to run the compact dishwasher several times a day, which is not economical.

So, the capacity of your dishwasher may be less than indicated in the specifications. And instead of 12 sets, only 9 will be included, everything is connected with the characteristics of the dishes. In addition, the manufacturers themselves do not recommend laying the machine down completely; the dishes will be washed worse. Be sure to take this into account when purchasing, good luck with your purchase!

Purchase recommendations

When preparing to purchase dishwashers, determine the capacity you need as follows:

  • For 1-2 people, choose a model with a capacity of 4-6 sets.
  • A family of 3-4 members needs a bin for 8-9 sets of dishes.

A machine that can accommodate a larger volume will have corresponding dimensions. In some situations, there is simply not enough space for a full-sized dishwasher in a small kitchen. Therefore, you should take into account not only the capacity of the camera, but also the size of the case.

Ask a Question

If you are using custom shaped designer cookware, keep in mind that it will require more space in the hopper.

Due to the characteristics of the kits used, the capacity of the dishwasher in practice may be slightly smaller. In addition, it is not recommended to pack objects too tightly and fill the chamber 100%. This will have a bad effect on the quality of washing.

What is included in the dishwasher set?

Buying a dishwasher is a fashion trend that makes our daily lives much easier. Now it is no longer fashionable to stand at the sink and wash plates and spoons - this part of the housework is willingly taken on by the electronic assistant - the dishwasher. But how to choose a truly effective device? How many partings can you wash at a time and in general - what is a set of dishes for a dishwasher and what does it include? There are a lot of questions, but there is no reason to panic - now we will find answers to them together.

What is a dishwasher set?

As you know, dishwashers differ not only in manufacturer and dimensions. When choosing this household appliance, close attention should be paid to its capacity. How many and what kind of dishes can your dishwasher clean?

This criterion is measured in sets. One set for PMM includes a generally accepted set of dishes and cutlery for table setting for one person.

What is included in the dishwasher set?

According to the rules of etiquette and table setting standards, a set of dishes for one person means:

  • one deep plate - for liquid first courses;
  • three flat plates - for side dishes, salads and sweet desserts;
  • cup for a drink (tea, coffee, compote);
  • an appropriate glass for alcohol or a glass for water or juice;
  • knife with fork;
  • three spoons - tablespoon, dessert and tea.

That is, how much is a set for a dishwasher? That's right, only 11 items.

How long does it take to clean a dishwasher?

As you can see, manufacturers do not take into account pots, pans, cutting boards, as well as ladle, spatulas, graters, meat grinders or food processor attachments, baking sheets, etc. When purchasing a particular PMM model, consider how often you cook at home and what utensils you use - all of it should fit into the tray of your appliance.

As a rule, trays and racks in PMM are designed for standard dishes - wide and deep soup plates, round plates of standard diameter, small plates. But we don’t always use just such utensils - in our kitchens there are deep bowls or bowls for liquids, square small plates, and other utensils “highlights”. The more non-standard the device, the more space it will take up, and the fewer dishes you can wash in one PMM cycle.

What types of dishwashers are there?

There is a gradation of dishwashers for washing sets of dishes. Dishwashers are:

  1. Compact – wash 4-6 sets of plates and cups;
  2. Narrow – for washing 6-9 sets;
  3. And full-sized ones - they can handle 12-14 sets of dishes at a time.

The first category is suitable for bachelors, office kitchens or married couples who only occasionally cook at home. The company offers many such options:

  • Bosch (SKS51E22EU, SKS50E32EU, SKS51E22),
  • Candy (CDCP 6 ES, CDCP 6 E),
  • Electrolux (ESF2400OW, ESF2400OK).

The second category will be able to effectively serve a family of 3-4 people. Pay attention to:

  • Bosch SCE52M65, Bosch SPS50E58,
  • Hotpoint-Ariston LSTB 4B00 EU,
  • Gorenje GV53311,
  • Candy CDCP 8 E,
  • HANSA ZWM 446 WEH.

But if you are a lucky person from a large family - from 5 people, then you should find a place in your kitchen for a full-size dishwasher. For example:

  • WHIRLPOOL ADP 500 WH,
  • BOSCH SMS 41 D 12 EU,
  • INDESIT DIF 16B1 A (EU),
  • ELECTROLUX ESL95330LO.

This is interesting! There are record-breaking dishwashers. One can wash 17 sets of dishes at a time! This is Asko, D 5893 XXL, manufacturer: Sweden. The second is considered one of the smallest. Electrolux ESF 2410 has dimensions of only 45 x 48 x 46 cm.

What can't be washed in the dishwasher?

Modern technology copes with any dishes and varying degrees of contamination. However, there are exceptions. It is not recommended to wash in the dishwasher:

  • wooden objects - cutting boards, cutlery, containers;
  • plastic that undergoes deformation when exposed to high temperatures;
  • aluminum cookware, which may oxidize.

Load crystal and silver into the PMM with care, and choose the washing program carefully. It is also risky to wash painted porcelain plates and cups in the dishwasher - the high temperatures and chemicals can damage the paint.

Results

So, we have found out what is included in the set of dishes for a dishwasher, how to determine the appropriate model according to this criterion, and also found out what can and what is not recommended to be washed with a dishwasher. In general, the one who invented and designed the PMM needs to erect a monument, because it is a truly economical and useful device that frees up a lot of time (about 10 per year!) for yourself and your family. If you choose the appropriate dishwasher model correctly and thoughtfully, and then follow the instructions for use, then this device will become an indispensable assistant and a lifesaver, which will delight you with trouble-free operation and clean dishes for many years to come.
