How to make a humidifier and air purifier with your own hands?

Types of humidifiers

At this stage of time, there are a large number of different types of air humidifiers, and here are the main ones:

  1. Regular humidifier. Quite simple to operate and assemble, but at the same time quite practical. It evaporates the water that is poured into the middle and supplies it in the form of steam.
  2. Cold mist humidifiers. They work using cold steam, spraying the liquid poured inside with a special fan, which is equipped with a finely divided mesh.
  3. Ultrasonic humidifiers. Using high frequency vibrations, water is transformed into steam.
  4. Humidifiers-purifiers are one of the newest devices for humidifying air masses. Their uniqueness lies in the fact that they not only moisten the air masses, but also eliminate various unpleasant odors from them, in addition, they remove harmful chemical compounds and bacteria from the air masses. With the help of the aromatizers built into the device, the atmosphere becomes more comfortable. But the biggest advantage of such devices is that they humidify fairly large areas, so one humidifier is enough for the entire apartment.

Steam appliances work in the same way as an iron. The element responsible for heating the water is located inside the device. When it is heated, the water also changes its temperature, and then it evaporates and steam penetrates the room.

Using this knowledge, you can easily build an air humidifier with your own hands. At the same time, you will not need to spend your finances, since all the elements for assembly can be found at home, which will allow you to save a lot. In addition, you can create a variety of humidifiers with your own hands.

How to replace a humidifier at home

If you are not a jack of all trades and assembling even the simplest humidifiers is an unrealistic task, use the following methods:

  • Hang a wet towel over the radiator and wet it regularly.
  • Place a container of water near the battery, dip one edge of the towel into it, and place the other on a warm accordion.
  • Place a container filled with water on the battery and add liquid periodically.
  • Using tight ropes threaded between the sections on the accordion, secure small containers with water, preferably flat ones. Do not forget to fill the vessels with fresh moisture in time, since under the influence of heat it will quickly evaporate.
  • If it’s summer outside and the heating is turned off: hang a wet rug made of thick fabric on the pipe, install a fan nearby and direct the air stream to the “humidifier”. The main thing is not to forget to wet the fabric when it dries and the humidity in the room becomes noticeably higher.

The listed methods are simple and allow you to easily humidify the air in the apartment. But their disadvantage is that the owners will have to constantly monitor the water level in the containers or the degree of humidity of the towel or rug.

Device role

Before you build a homemade humidifier at home, it is important to know why it is needed.

As a rule, the use of an air mass humidifier is necessary for the following purposes:

  • to always maintain normal air humidity in the apartment, especially in winter, since heating greatly dries the air and it is impossible to humidify it in other ways;
  • to avoid respiratory diseases, allergies and other consequences of dry air;
  • eliminates the influenza virus;
  • the device is used to maintain air humidification at a level of 40-70%, which is considered optimal humidification (it is these values of air humidification that have a positive effect on the general condition and performance of a person);
  • can serve as a night light if equipped for this purpose;
  • serves as protection against bacteria and viruses;
  • can be used as a flavoring agent;
  • used to release steam safely;
  • used to strengthen the body of children;
  • serves to improve skin condition;
  • gives life and development to indoor plants;
  • prevents things made of wood and paper from deteriorating and quickly being destroyed;
  • used to purify the air from unpleasant odors.

How the humidifier works

An ultrasonic humidifier or any other one works on the following principle:

  • Heating and subsequent evaporation of water into the room. The only difference between the models is that the ultrasonic device converts water into steam thanks to a piezoelectric element that produces high-frequency vibrations. And the rest - using a light heating element.

Sophisticated ultrasonic humidifier

Do-it-yourself air humidifier and using improvised means: types

To soften the microclimate of your home and make the air more humid, you should use a humidifier.

This device is very relevant during the heating season, since hot radiators can significantly dry out the air, destroying oxygen.

There are several types of devices: steam, ultrasonic, cold evaporation. Each option has its own design and method of air humidification. Homemade humidifiers can become high-quality analogues to industrial goods.

Among homemade devices, certain types also stand out:

  • Devices that are attached to the battery.
  • Cold evaporation devices.
  • Air washing.

Each design involves the use of water and additional elements that help moisture evaporate.

Air humidifier for battery

The principle of “operation” of an air humidifier, which operates thanks to a heating battery, is quite simple. Due to the fact that the temperature of the heating element is very high, moisture evaporates.

There are several options for arranging such a unit. Usually you need a container for water and textiles from which the moisture will evaporate. Other details may be needed.

The simplest DIY battery-powered humidifiers

To make a humidifier attached to a battery, you will need the simplest equipment: fabric, rope, container. Production will take about 5-10 minutes.

What should be done:

  1. Cut a piece of fabric that will cover 50-70% of the battery surface.
  2. Cut the rope into 2-3 equal parts.
  3. Attach the rope to the fabric at the corners.
  4. Tie the ropes to the top of the battery. The fabric should cover the surface of the heating element and touch the floor.
  5. Pour water into a container, place batteries at the bottom, and lower the bottom of a piece of fabric into this container.

The water from the container will hydrate the fabric, maintaining the moisture level. The pipe will heat up, evaporating moisture.

Water containers

You can make a completely simple humidifier using any suitable container. The only drawback may be low efficiency. But it's free.

DIY air humidifier from a plastic bottle

Let's take a closer look at how to make an air humidifier with your own hands from a plastic bottle. This improvised device can be left in the children's room, and it will do its job. At the same time, it will not kill anyone with an electric shock, like a humidifier from a computer cooler, will not leave a residue on things, as happens from ultrasonic humidifiers, and is not harmful to health.

To work, you will need a 2-liter plastic bottle, wide tape, scissors and a central heating radiator. Additionally, you will need either gauze or a long piece of cloth. Everything is ready for work. Cut a long hole in the bottle, 6 centimeters wide and 12 centimeters long.

The hole should be on the side. Next, make two wide ribbons that will secure the bottle to the battery. Seal the junction of the ribbons and the bottle well with tape so that the bottle does not fall. Next, cut two wide strips from the fabric and wet them with water. Hang the bottle from the battery, pour water into the hole and place one end of the ribbon in the water and the other end on the battery.

The homemade air humidifier is ready for use. Now you need to periodically add water inside the bottle and the room will have moist air.

Air humidifiers for battery

an air humidifier for a battery yourself ; for this you need to have a heating battery that is not walled up in the wall. Materials for production will be required: water bottle (1.5-2 l); tape, preferably wide; a piece of fabric; meter long gauze.

The advantage of this option is that it does not consume any resources, except perhaps water, it can be made in a matter of minutes, and the effect is no worse than from a store-bought one.

So, the manufacturing sequence:

  1. Cut a window in the bottle up to 12 cm long and up to 7 cm wide. This should be done in the side part.
  2. Hang the bottle with the slit facing up from the pipe that extends from the battery. To do this, use a rope or a piece of fabric. To prevent this design from turning over, cover the place where the bottle comes into contact with the fabric with tape.

  3. Take the gauze and fold it several times so that you get a strip up to a meter long and about 10 cm wide.
  4. We lower the resulting piece of gauze into the bottle with one end, and wrap the other around the pipe; if you wish, you can make several such cuts, then the effect will be enhanced.
  5. After preparation, you can start the humidifier by pouring water into it.

Another option for a battery humidifier is this: using a rope threaded through the holes, you need to attach containers to the battery accordion, from which water will not spill. You can use light oblong vases; in addition to their main function of humidification, which will occur as a result of the evaporation of moisture from them, they will definitely become a decoration for the interior.

Air humidifier for battery

If you don’t want to look for such decorative elements, you can do it even simpler - place a metal container with water on the battery and that’s it. True, in this case, you may have to say goodbye to it at the end of the heating season, since serious scale forms in the container after tap water, so use several as a solution, while one is “working”, the second is going through the cleaning process.

DIY air washing

If you are interested in how to make an air humidifier with your own hands that will really work effectively in your home, then pay attention to such a device as an air washer.

This process is not the easiest and will require you to have certain tools and equipment. parts. To make it you will need:

  1. Plastic rectangular container for storing food with a lid, 5-7 liters.
  2. Used CDs, the bigger the better.
  3. Plastic. You can use any plastic scraps of the same thickness. Each cutting must measure at least 5cm by 5cm.
  4. Two pieces of thin plastic tube. The diameter must be selected experimentally.
  5. Select the gear from a children's toy empirically
  6. Electric motor from an old tape recorder.
  7. Fan

The main tool you will need is a glue gun.

A homemade humidifier-cleaner is made like this:

  1. Take CDs. The central hole of the disk is sealed on both sides with pieces of plastic using a glue gun. It is better to make them round and identical.
  2. After this, make through holes in them for a thin plastic tube. The plastic tube should be slightly larger than the width of the container.
  3. The next step will be to place all the disks as close to each other as possible and secure them with a glue gun. The resulting piece should resemble the inside of an air washer.
  4. We make 1 hole in the opposite sides of the container and insert the workpiece with disks across it. On one side you need to glue the washer with a glue gun so that the workpiece does not jump out.
  5. On the other side, to the protruding end of the plastic tube, use a gun to glue a large gear.
  6. We fix the electric motor with a small gear so that it engages and can rotate the interior with CD discs inside the container.
  7. We make a hole in the lid of the container for the fan and several holes so that moist and purified air comes out of them.

All that remains is to fill the water, plug in the device and enjoy the fruits of your own labor.
