Fast charging of your phone increases comfort and makes life easier. Which standard should you choose? Does fast charging damage the battery? Is it safe to use universal chargers?

How to quickly charge your phone?

Batteries in modern smartphones are becoming larger every year; at the moment there are no cells on the market that could offer longer operating time in a smaller size. Batteries with a capacity of 4000–5000 mAh are already present not only in cheap devices, but also in flagships, which affects not only the thickness of the case, but also the charging time.

That's why manufacturers are striving to offer technologies that will charge our smartphones faster. They have both advantages and disadvantages. Let's look at which fast charging standards you should pay special attention to.

It has long been no secret that slower charging is more gentle on the battery than fast charging. A side effect of fast charging is that the case heats up. High temperatures almost always have a bad effect on any electronic devices. And yet, at the moment there is no absolute evidence that frequent use of Quick Charge has a negative effect on the performance of the battery and the device as a whole.

The average lifespan of a smartphone is about 1.5-2 years. During this time, the user will not have time to exhaust all battery resources. The wear and tear will be the same as using a conventional charger.

Does fast charging damage the battery?

Theoretically, the problem is that fast charging makes the battery very hot. This can negatively affect its service life, in extreme (extremely rare) situations, damage it, or cause a short circuit with ignition.

But, all popular and modern fast charging standards already have built-in protection. One of the most important criteria is to reduce the risk of overheating of the energy storage device by charging more slowly at the end (for example, after 80%). This ensures that heat is dissipated and the element is not overloaded. The result is greater durability and safety.

How many amps do you need for fast charging?

Manufacturers often boast that their chargers have higher amperage, so they can charge your phone faster. Yes, 1 A?1 V = 1 W, and more W can mean faster charging. This is true, but sometimes 25 W (3 A) gives the same effect as 40 W (6 A).

One might assume that the higher the amps and volts, the greater the chance of faster charging. In practice, you also need to pay attention to what technology your hardware supports.
